There are thousands of "in depth" gardening
guides available from bookshops and garden centres. Although expensive and
time-consuming to take in, these can be an excellent source of
information.
The Garden Lady's "Wilderness to
Paradise" is an easy-to-follow, practical guide to inexpensive things to do.
Categorised into twelve carefully selected topics, it offers over 100 useful
tips to those that want to make the most of their garden, but aren't sure how
to go about it. It is available in booklet form or on CD-ROM.
For
example: LAWNS 29. Dealing
with grass in a neglected garden depends on just how bad it is. With long
grass, cut it right down. The more regularly you mow the better it will be
because cutting encourages new and healthy growth.
BEDS & BORDERS 39. Bulbs that have
been growing undisturbed for five or more years benefit from being lifted. The
numbers of bulbs increase whilst the space in which they grow does not.
Overcrowded bulbs do not flower as well. Only re-plant sound bulbs and discard
the rest. SOWING SEEDS 52. You
can make seeds mouse-proof by moistening them with paraffin before sowing. Try
this with peas and beans for example.
Neither this popular booklet nor
CD-ROM can be purchased in bookshops or garden centres. They are only available
from The Garden Lady either by attending her regular talks and lectures
or by ordering through the online form below.
